About this article
This guide explains the standard user roles available in WeatherTRAK Central (web and mobile) and WaterCompass.
Overview
Using the Admin Tool, account managers can limit or expand user access to their HydroPoint devices and the interfaces they work with. This can be useful for sites where the familiarity with a device varies across users and you may want to limit the level of information that is presented.
User Roles control what each user can see and do in each product.
Note that access is defined separately for web and mobile, so some roles apply to web only, mobile only, or both.

The table below lists the standard roles, whether they can sign in on web and/or mobile, and what each role can do.

Choosing the Right User Role
• Use Manager user roles for users who must make configuration changes and manage day-to-day operations.
• Use Viewer user roles for stakeholders who only need to see data and status.
• Use mobile-only user roles when a user should only work from the app (field technicians, installers, etc.).
Common Questions
Q: Why can I sign in on mobile but not on web?
A: You may have a mobile-only use role such as WeatherTRAK Mobile Manager or WeatherTRAK Mobile Basic.
Q: Why can I see WaterCompass data but not change alert thresholds?
A: You may have the WaterCompass Viewer user role instead of WaterCompass Manager or WaterCompass Notify.
Q: How do I change a user’s role?
A: Contact your organization’s administrator or HydroPoint Support to request a user role change.
Q: Why did the user get the WeatherTRAK Manager user role?
A: The WeatherTRAK Manager user role is selected by default when a new user is created and associated with their initial account. If an existing user is associated to a new account, the user will get the WeatherTRAK Manager user role in the newly associated the account.
How to access User Roles in Admin Tool
1. Go to Admin Tool (admin.hydropoint.net)
2. Select Users

3. Select the user you want to review or change permissions or User Roles
4. See currently assigned User Roles by associated Account in Access and Permissions list under Assigned Roles. Select the Edit link next to Account.

5. The Access and Permissions page has two Account Level Permission types, Basic and Custom.
Basic allows the administrator to select a User Role with pre-built permissions. A user can be assigned more than one User Role. A user with more than one user Role will be granted the highest level of permission based on all their assigned User Roles. A description of the Standard User Roles is described above.

Custom allows for micro-control of permissions by Area. Note: Using custom permissions will be removed from customers in the future.
