For Cellular Communication Antennas
For Directions on installing the Omni Outdoor Cylinder Antenna go Omni Directional Antenna_Installation Guide
When using an external antenna, placement of that antenna is critical to a solid data link. The key to the overall robustness of the communication link is the height and placement of the antenna. In general, communication modules with a higher antenna placement (roofline height) will have a better communication link. An adjustment of as little as 2 feet in antenna placement can resolve some noise problems.

In order to get the best signal, HydroPoint recommends:
- placing the antenna 10-25 feet away from tree canopies and on top of a roofline if close to a building
- mounting the antenna to a metal pipe that is driven into the earth, which creates a good earth ground for the antenna.
- Ensure as much vertical separation as possible between all antennas. Other antennas in close proximity are a potential source of interference. HydroPoint recommends 10’ of vertical separation from other high power.
- Cellular signals can penetrate plastic but not metal. If placing a controller inside a large metal enclosure be sure to install an external antenna.
-
To view signal strength, press the COMM button. If the signal strength is acceptable, the word “OK” will display in the VIEW PHASE INTEGRITY screen.
- A signal level above 10 is strongly preferred. If the signal level is low (below 5) there may be a line-of-site issue with the antenna. The antenna may need to be redirected or increased in height.
A Central Yagi antenna is also available, however we do not prefer this accessory as there as there have been directional problems reported.
