FM200 Battery Replacement Instructions:
The following steps will highlight the battery replacement process for the FM200 flow monitor. A battery replacement kit will be provided for identified devices with a low or dead battery. Troubleshooting steps are available at the end of this guide.
Warning! DO NOT remove the sensor from the water meter when replacing the batteries. Moving the sensor will impact device calibration.
Phase 1: Physically replace the FM200 batteries.
Step 1: Before Replacing the FM200 batteries, complete the following:
- Take a photo of the serial number on top of the FM200.
- Swipe the magnet across the barcode on top of the device.
- Take a photo of the water meter register (dial).
Step 2: Remove the old batteries from the FM200 flow monitor.
- Remove the lid to the FM200 (Screws will remain attached to the lid).
- Cut the zip ties holding the existing batteries in place and remove them from the enclosure. Be careful not to cut any cables.
- Remove the existing batteries from the battery holder.
Step 3: Install the new batteries in the FM200 flow monitor.
- Install two new lithium metal batteries in the flow monitor battery holder.
- Verify the positive and negative terminals of the battery line up with the positive and negative terminals on the battery holder. This information is stamped into the plastic battery holder.
- Verify the batteries are fully seated in the battery holder and make a clean connection with the positive and negative battery terminals.
Step 4: Secure the batteries in the battery holder.
- Secure the batteries inside the battery holder with the zip ties provided.
- Clip off the excess cable tie before replacing the lid.
Step 5: Replace the lid on the FM200 flow monitor.
- Secure the lid on the FM200 flow monitor. Be careful to align the gaskets to ensure a proper seal.
- Tighten the screws in a cross-connection pattern shown in the image below. Ensure an equal amount of pressure is applied to maintain the integrity of the FM200 enclosure, making it water-resistant. Do NOT over Tighten
Phase 2: Verify battery installation.
Step 6: Power-on the FM200 flow monitor.
- Swipe a magnet across the serial number barcode to power the device on.
- Wait 2 minutes. Provide the flow monitor time to complete the power on.
- Refresh the FM200 Status page in the FM200 Activator.
- Confirm the date and time stamp matches the most recent magnet swipe.
- Continue to step 7.
Step 7: Complete a Signal Test.

Step 10: Dispose of the old batteries wherever you recycle batteries locally.
Troubleshooting FM200 Battery Replacement:
There are two primary issues that prevent the FM200 flow monitor from communicating after a battery replacement. Please check and verify the following when experiencing issues with a battery replacement:
Step 11: Batteries are not fully seated in the battery holder.
- The battery may have popped out of the battery holder during installation. Open the device and verify the batteries sit flush inside of the battery holder and are secured with zip ties.
- Are the batteries fully seated in the battery holder?
- If yes, continue to step 12.
- If no, re-seat the batteries and Complete at Steps beginning at Step 6.
Step 12: Positive and Negative terminals between the battery and the battery holder are not lined up correctly.
- Are the positive and negative battery terminals lined up correctly?
- If yes, continue to step 13.
- If no, install the batteries correctly and start again at step 6.
Step 13: Replace the FM200 device.
This is the last resort! DO NOT replace the device unless all previous steps have failed.
Verify the batteries are installed correctly as outlined in steps 11 and 12 before replacing the FM200 flow monitor.
