Activating Your Controller
Ready to activate a WeatherTRAK controller? – Click here to complete the WeatherTRAK Controller Activation Form
Step-by-Step Video Breakdown
What “activation” does
Activation brings a new or replacement WeatherTRAK controller online so it can communicate with WeatherTRAK Central, receive climate data for its micro‑zone, and be managed remotely (web and mobile). When activation is complete, the controller will sync with your account/site and begin using current weather data for scheduling.
1) Create your WeatherTRAK account and site
If you don’t already have one:
Create a WeatherTRAK account with your work email. You can do this by contacting Hydropoint Support. (800-362-8774)
Create a “Site” that represents the property/campus where the controller lives. Name it clearly (e.g., Acme Logistics – West DC), and add the street address.
If the property already exists under a customer’s account, you’ll either join their site or request access.
2) Add or confirm user access
Ensure the correct users have access to the site/controller (e.g., customer, branch manager, foreman).
If the controller belongs to a customer’s account, submit an access request so your team can program and monitor it. You can do this by contacting Hydropoint Support. (800-362-8774)
Verify role‑appropriate permissions (view, program, flow/alerts, etc.).
3) Prerequisites (gather before you start)
AC power connected to the controller so it can boot, show menus, and communicate.
Controller serial number (from the controller’s HELP/Info menu or QR code on the front of the controller).
SIM card number (from HELP/Info if using cellular).
Purchaser contact: name, email, phone.
Installer company: name, address.
Installer contact: name, email, phone.
Controller location: street address and site name.
Optional but helpful: your WeatherTRAK account email and site name, if already created.
4) Power up & enable communication
Turn on the controller with AC power connected; allow it to fully boot.
Enable/verify cellular communication on the controller. Confirm that the comms module is powered and ready (status appears after a brief initialization).
If applicable, ensure antenna(s) are attached and you have adequate signal at the install location.
5) Set the controller’s micro‑zone
Select the micro‑zone (local climate region) the controller uses to pull weather and ET data.
Use the property’s actual location; this affects run times and savings.
Save your selection.
6) Confirm connection to WeatherTRAK Central
From the controller, confirm it shows connected/online status.
A quick check after activation is to press the ET button and verify that a current date/time is displayed beneath the ET value, indicating the controller is actively receiving data.
7) Choose your activation method
You can activate in three ways. Pick the one that fits your workflow:
A) Pre‑Activation (Online Form)
Best when you can gather details ahead of the truck roll.
Open the WeatherTRAK Controller Activation form online.
Enter the prerequisite details.
Submit. You’ll receive confirmation, and the controller is queued to be brought online.
B) Pre‑Activation (Email Request)
If you prefer email:
Send an email with the same activation details to the designated support address.
Include your contact info for any follow‑ups.
C) Real‑Time Activation (Phone)
This method is the slowest, but is necessary when you’re onsite with power on and can read serial/SIM numbers from the panel:
Call WeatherTRAK support and request controller activation.
Provide the required info and stay on the line while the agent completes activation.
Keep the controller awake; be ready to navigate to HELP/Info menus as needed.
Pro Tip: Don’t rush it. Activation goes fastest when you have all details at hand and the controller is powered, with comms on.
8) Verify “activation complete”
Confirm the controller shows as connected in WeatherTRAK Central under the correct site.
On the controller, press ET and look for a current date/time beneath ET (indicates active data link).
Run a quick valve test from WeatherTRAK Mobile or the panel to ensure control.
Quick troubleshooting
If you cannot find your issue here, we recommend that you search the KnowledgeBase for immediate help or contact support.
No connection? Confirm AC power, cellular comms enabled, and adequate signal; recheck serial/SIM entries.
Wrong site/account? Request a site transfer or have the owner grant access.
ET shows but time is blank? Re‑check activation status and comms; contact support.
Large campus or multiple controllers? Repeat activation per controller; keep a shared worksheet template for serial/SIM tracking.
