Activating the Cell Modem
Before installing the modem hardware, you must activate it through the HydroPoint web portal. You will need the modem information from the activation card included in your package.
1. Locate the wireless activation information card from your package. You will need the SIM number and the serial number from this card.
2. Visit the HydroPoint activation web page and complete the activation form with the following information:
- Account name
- Billing address
- Contact name
- Billing phone number
- Billing email address
- Cell modem SIM number (from the activation card)
- Cell modem serial number (from the activation card)
- Controller name
- Site name
3. Review and agree to the listed terms and conditions.
4. Enter your name in the signature field, then use your mouse to create a signature.
5. Submit the activation form.
6. Allow approximately one day for the activation to be processed. Wait for confirmation that your cell modem has been activated before proceeding with installation.
Powering Down the Controller
Once you have received notification that your cell modem has been activated, you can begin the physical installation. The first step is to safely power down the controller.
1. Power down the controller at the circuit breaker
2. Unplug the controller from its power source
3. Remove the plastic cover and unplug the orange lead from the transformer.
Installing the Salt Shaker Antenna
1. Locate the rubber plug in the antenna hole on the controller enclosure and pull it out.
2. Install the salt shaker antenna into the antenna hole.
3. Use a wrench to snug down the antenna lightly. Do not torque it down excessively—light snugness is sufficient.
Connecting Cables to the Cell Modem
Before mounting the cell modem inside the enclosure, you need to connect the cables.
1. Take the short ethernet cable and connect it to the ethernet port on the cell modem.
2. Take the small antenna fitting from the antenna cable and connect it to the adapter labeled WWAN MAIN on the modem.
Mounting the Cell Modem
1. Connect the modem to the inside top of the enclosure using two screws.
2. The weather stripping material in the enclosure will provide extra support to the back of the modem.
Connecting the Antenna Cable
1. Take the other end of the antenna cable and connect it to the salt shaker antenna.
2. Use a wrench to snug down the connection lightly, just as you did when installing the antenna.
Connecting Power and Ethernet
1. Connect the modem power cable to the power board at the port labeled COM3.
2. Take the other end of the ethernet cable (already connected to the modem) and connect it to the port on the back of the display board.
3. If needed, use the included gray cable clip to secure the ethernet cable.
Powering Up the Controller
1. Power the controller back up using the same method you used to power it down (circuit breaker, plug, or orange transformer lead).
2. The hardware installation is now complete.
🚨Important: With all communication methods, make sure the antenna and ribbon cable are connected before powering up the controller. Powering up without an antenna or ribbon cable will damage the device and void the warranty.
Configuring the Cell Modem
After the hardware installation is complete and the controller is powered up, you need to configure the cell modem through the controller interface.
1. Press the System Setup button in the lower corner of the controller display.
2. Use the arrow buttons to navigate to Network Setup.
3. Press OK.
4. Navigate to Communication Setup.
5. Press OK to view the Communication Type menu.
Verifying Cell Modem Information
1. After a moment, the Cell Modem Info menu will populate.
2. Open the Cell Modem Info menu to view modem information such as signal quality and signal strength.
Checking BaseManager Connection
1. Press the Back button twice until you find BaseManager Setup.
2. Open the BaseManager Setup menu.
3. Verify that BaseManager Enabled is checked. If it is not checked, press the Plus button to enable it.
4. Navigate back to BaseManager Info to verify the connection status.
5. Check that the status reads Connected.
Establishing BaseManager Connection
If the status does not read Connected, follow these steps:
1. Press OK while viewing the BaseManager connection status.
2. After a moment, the controller will connect to BaseManager and the status will update to Connected.
Adding Controller to BaseManager Account
If you have not yet connected your controller to BaseManager, you will need to use the authorization code to add it to an existing BaseManager account.
1. Locate the authorization code that appears on the controller display.
2. Take a picture of the authorization code and the accompanying instructions before leaving the site. You will need this information when you return to the office.
3. Follow the instructions provided with the authorization code to add your new controller to your existing BaseManager account.
