Step-by-Step Guide
Installing the OptiFlow Key
1. Locate the USB port on the back side of the controller panel.
2. Insert the OptiFlow key into the USB port, ensuring it is properly seated and making a secure connection.
3. Wait for the controller to read the firmware from the OptiFlow key. This process can take up to 10 minutes after plugging in the key.
If you have properly plugged in the key, waited 10 minutes, and still do not see the upgrade message in the next steps, contact customer service for assistance.
Accessing the Upgrade Screen
1. Press the Help button on the controller.
2. Press the Forward Arrow button two times to navigate to the Help 3 screen.
3. Verify that the upgrade message is displayed on the Help 3 screen. This message confirms that the controller has successfully read the OptiFlow key and is ready to perform the firmware upgrade.
Performing the Firmware Upgrade
1. From the Help 3 screen, press the Forward Arrow button one time to navigate to screen Help 3A.
2. Review the upgrade information displayed on Help 3A. You will see the current firmware version and the new firmware version. The upgrade will update the controller from Weather Trac version 7.x.x (setup mode or version 7 firmware) to Weather Trac version 8.x.x (OptiFlow firmware). The specific version numbers may vary depending on when you perform the upgrade.
3. Initiate the upgrade sequence by pressing the following buttons in order:
- Press the Star button
- Press the Plus button
- Press the Select button to commit to the firmware upgrade
This multi-button sequence is designed to prevent accidental firmware upgrades.
4. Once you press Select, the controller will commit to the firmware upgrade and begin the update process.
Post-Upgrade Requirements
After the firmware upgrade is complete, the controller will be ready to be added to your OptiFlow network. However, the controller will not deliver scheduled irrigation until it has been properly programmed in the OptiFlow firmware. Make sure to complete the programming setup to enable irrigation scheduling.
