    FM200 Communication Issues

The following steps will provide guidance on troubleshooting FM200 flow monitors experiencing intermittent or no communication. Do Not leave the site until communication has been verified.

Troubleshooting No Communication and Intermittent Communication issues

Step 1: Replace the batteries in the FM200 flow monitor

    1. Continue to step 2 once the battery replacement is complete. Please see Battery Replacement Guide for instructions

Reminder: DO NOT  move or remove the sensor from the register during the battery replacement.

Step 2: Perform a visual inspection of the Antenna and cable connection

    1. Is the antenna securely connected to the flow monitor?
      • If yes, move to Step 2-B.
      • If no, connect the antenna and move to step 2-B.
    2. Is the antenna physically damaged?
      • If yes, move to Step 4.
      • If no, continue to Step 2-C.
    3. Is the antenna cable physically damaged?
      • If yes, move to Step 4.
      • If no, continue to Step 2-D.
    4. Is the antenna mounted at the highest point in the vault?
      1. If yes, move to Step 3.
      2. If no, relocate the antenna to the highest point in the vault and Step 3.
    5. Is the antenna SMA connector corroded?
      • If yes, move to Step 4.
      • If no, continue to Step 3.

Step 3: Swipe a magnet along the FM200 serial number barcode

    1. Listen for a series of error beeps. Wait approximately 5 minutes
      • Did you hear a series of error beeps?
        • If yes, see the chart below for the next steps
        • If no, continue to step 3-B

Step 4: Verify Status in the FM200 Activator

    1. Verify communication Signal Test in the FM200 Activator
      • Did the device communicate?
        • If yes, continue to Step 3-D
        • If no, continue to Step 4
    2. Verify battery level in the FM200 Activator.
      • Does the battery level have a green check mark?
        • If yes, complete the forms and depart the site.
        • If no, continue to Step 5.

    Step 5: Replace the antenna

    1. Install a new antenna in a plastic valve box outside of the utility vault.
      • FM200 Antenna Extension Guide: COMING SOON
    2. Connect the antenna to the flow monitor. Firmly hand tighten.

DO NOT replace the device BEFORE completing steps 1-5 and failed to establish good service.

    1. Install a new FM200 flow monitor.
    2. Complete the Device Replacement Form
    3. Return the old FM200 flow monitor via RMA. Do not discard the device.

    Error Code Beeps

Confirm the error code by swiping the magnet once again. Carefully listen for the total number of beeps emitted by the device. The beeps will occur in rapid succession. Additionally, the beeps emitted from the device will have a different tone from the beeps heard during the installation process. As a reminder, it may take up to 5 minutes for the device to generate and emit the error. Please be patient.

    2 Beeps

Server or network error, try again in 5 minutes. Call contractor support after 3 attempts.

    3 Beeps

Server error, try again in 5 minutes. Call contractor support after 3 attempts.

    4 Beeps

Network error, try again in 5 minutes. Call contractor support after 3 attempts.

    5 Beeps

Antenna-related, troubleshoot antenna connection and signal strength, try again.

    6 Beeps
