Step-by-Step Guide
Controller Navigation and Basic Controls
The BaseStation 1000 features several programming menu options accessible through dedicated buttons on the controller face. Understanding the navigation controls is essential before beginning any programming tasks.
Use the up, down, left, and right buttons to navigate through each menu option. Press OK to select a menu or confirm a choice. Press Back to return to the previous menu option.
To switch between programs, press the Program button. To adjust values in fields such as zone runtime screens, use the plus and minus buttons.
If you need assistance at any point, press the Help button for content-specific instructions related to the screen you're currently viewing.
You can change the language setting by pressing the English and Spanish button.
Device Search and Assignment
The first programming task is to search for and assign devices. This process works the same way for both two-wire and conventional wire systems. Conventional wire systems come from the factory already configured for the number of zones you have (up to 48 zones), but they can be reassigned using this process.
Every Baseline device has a unique serial number. You'll find this serial number on the side of devices such as biCoders. The search process locates all devices on the wire path by their serial numbers, allowing you to assign them to specific zones.
1. Navigate to the Device Assignment menu for zones.
2. Select Search. The controller will search the wire path for all connected devices and display them as they are found.
3. Once enough devices have been found, you can cancel the search by selecting Cancel, then confirm by pressing OK to accept the devices already found.
4. Press the down button to view the list of all devices that were found.
5. Highlight a device from the list, then navigate over to select which zone you want to assign it to.
6. Press OK to confirm the assignment.
7. Repeat this process for all zones you need to assign.
Program Setup and Zone Assignment
After completing device assignments, proceed to program setup. The screens are the same for each type of device.
1. Navigate to Program Setup and search for programs.
2. Select the program you want to configure. You can change programs in two ways:
- Press the Program button to cycle forward through programs
- Press and hold the Program button and the minus button simultaneously to cycle backward through programs
3. Assign a zone to a program by giving it a runtime. Use the plus button to increase the runtime value (for example, to 10 minutes). If you go too far, press the minus button to decrease the value.
4. Navigate down to select additional zones and assign runtimes to each zone you want to include in the program.
5. To assign zones to additional programs, change to a different program (such as Program 2) and repeat the runtime assignment process. Zones can be assigned to multiple programs by giving them a runtime in each program.
Program Start Configuration
After assigning zones and runtimes, configure how the program will start.
1. Navigate to the program start options. You have several choices for starting a program:
- Day and Time – Start based on specific days and times
- Moisture Reading – Start based on soil moisture levels
- Switch – Start based on a switch input
- Temperature Reading – Start based on temperature conditions
2. Select Day and Time for standard scheduling.
Selecting Start Days
1. Choose your start days from the available options. The controller offers basic intervals you're familiar with, including:
- Weekday – Select specific days of the week
- Basic Intervals – Run every third or fourth day
- Smart Intervals – Calendar-based scheduling where you choose an interval for each week of the year
2. If you select Weekday, you can choose individual days. For example, you can select to run on Tuesday and Thursday only, or you can select to run every day except Tuesday and Thursday.
3. Confirm your day selections before proceeding to start times.
Setting Start Times
1. After choosing start days, select your start times. The controller provides eight available start times.
2. Adjust each start time by pressing the plus and minus buttons. For example, you can set a start time to 8:00 AM.
3. Configure additional start times as needed for your watering schedule.
Soak Cycle Setup
Soak cycling is a recommended feature that divides zone runtimes into multiple cycles with soak periods in between, allowing water to absorb into the soil and reducing runoff.
1. Navigate to the Soak Cycling menu for your program.
2. To turn soak cycling on, decide how many cycles you want to divide your runtime into. For example, if you have 10-minute runtimes and want to divide them into two cycles, each cycle will run for 5 minutes.
3. Set how long you want each zone to soak before running the next cycle.
4. Consider using the Intelligent Soak Cycle feature, which is recommended. For more information on this feature, visit the Baseline Systems website.
Water Window Configuration
The water window defines the hours of the day when watering is allowed or disallowed. This prevents watering during inappropriate times such as peak heat hours or restricted watering periods.
1. Navigate to the Water Window menu for your program.
2. Choose between two options:
- Set Week – Apply the same water window to every day of the week
- Set Each Day – Configure different hours for each individual day of the week
3. Select Set Week to apply uniform settings across all days.
4. Navigate through each hour of the day and select whether to allow or disallow watering.
You can do this in two ways:
- Press the minus button to move to the next hour
- Press OK to toggle the current hour between on and off
5. For example, to prevent watering after 10:00 AM, turn off all hours from 10:00 AM through 6:00 PM. Then enable watering from 6:00 PM onward.
Multiple Zone Operation
If you need to run more than one zone at a time, configure the simultaneous zone settings.
1. Navigate to the Zones at One Time setting for the program.
2. Set the maximum number of zones that can run simultaneously within this program.
3. To stack multiple programs and run zones from different programs at the same time, set the maximum number of program zones across all programs.
Program Enable/Disable
For seasonal programs or programs you don't use frequently, the enable/disable feature provides a convenient way to keep programs configured but inactive.
1. Navigate to the Enable/Disable setting for the program.
2. Set up a program completely, then disable it when not in use.
3. Enable the program only when you actually need to use it, without having to reconfigure all settings.
Additional Program Settings
The program configuration screen provides access to several additional settings that control program operation.
You can set up Stops and Pauses for your program, which allow you to temporarily interrupt watering schedules without deleting program configurations.
You can also determine whether to assign the following components to the program:
- Master Valve
- Booster Pump
- Flow Meters
- Water Sources
Configure these settings based on your specific irrigation system requirements and installed equipment.
