Step-by-Step Guide
Accessing the Assignment Menu
1. Starting at the Run dial position, turn the dial to Assign.
2. Select the menu Assign biCoders to Zones and press Enter.
Navigating the Assignment Interface
On the BaseStation 3200, the plus and minus keys navigate through the left column, while the arrow keys navigate through the right column.
Searching for Devices on the Wire Path
1. In the left column, highlight the Search field.
2. Press the Enter key.
3. The controller will now search the wire path for any devices connected to it. Once the search is complete, the list will be populated with your unique device serial numbers.
Assigning a Device to a Zone
1. Locate the desired serial number in the left column and highlight it. For example, to assign serial number e283492 to zone 1, first highlight that serial number in the left column.
2. In the right column, highlight the zone you want to assign the device to (e.g., Zone 1).
3. Press the Enter key to complete the assignment.
4. Once assigned, the serial number will no longer appear in the left column. It will now appear in the right-hand column associated with the assigned zone.
Understanding biCoder Serial Numbers and Stickers
The serial numbers you assign should be based on the list you created when you installed the biCoders in the field. biCoders come with a pre-assigned serial number and two extra stickers with that same number. One sticker can be used on a list with a description of the location, and the other sticker may be used on an as-built plan. On your list, each sticker should have a description after it.
Identifying biCoder Types by Serial Number Prefix
All single zone biCoders start with the letter D. For example, serial number d081344 is a single zone biCoder.
All two zone biCoders start with the letter E. For example, serial number e044641 is a two zone biCoder.
All four zone biCoders start with the letter Q.
Understanding Multi-Zone biCoder Serial Numbers
Two zone and four zone biCoders only show one serial number on the device itself. For a two zone biCoder, the white wire is the common. Each colored wire corresponds to a specific serial number.
For example, on a two zone biCoder with serial number e044641 shown on the sticker:
- The orange wire corresponds to serial number e044641
- The yellow wire corresponds to serial number e044642
Only serial number 641 shows on the sticker, but the controller will recognize both sequential serial numbers during the search.
Assigning Additional Zones
1. To assign the next device, locate the desired serial number in the left column. For example, to assign va0003 to zone 2, highlight va0003 in the left column.
2. Highlight Zone 2 in the right column.
3. Press the Enter key to assign it to zone 2.
4. Repeat this process for all remaining zones.
Assigning biCoders to Master Valves
The assignment process for master valves is nearly identical to assigning zones.
1. Turn the dial to Assign.
2. Look for the menu that says Assign biCoders to Master Valves and select it.
3. Once the menu is open, highlight the Search box and press Enter. The controller will search for any master valves connected to the wire path.
4. Select the desired serial number in the left column. For example, select serial number ve00003.
5. In the right column, highlight Master Valve 1.
6. Press Enter to complete the assignment.
7. To assign additional master valves, repeat the process. For example, select d081344 from the left column and assign it to Master Valve 2 in the right column.
Assigning biCoders to Flow Meters
Assignment for flow meters follows the same process as zones and master valves.
1. Open the Assign biCoders to Flow Meters menu.
2. Search the wire path.
3. Select a serial number from the left column.
4. Assign it to a flow meter in the right column.
If you only have one flow meter, this process is particularly straightforward.
Correcting Assignment Mistakes
If you've made a mistake during assignment, it's easy to fix.
1. Return to the assignment menu. For example, to correct zone assignments, go to Assign biCoders to Zones.
2. Look for the zones that are assigned incorrectly.
Unassigning a Device from a Zone
1. In the right-hand column, highlight the zone you want to unassign (e.g., Zone 5).
2. In the left-hand column, highlight Unassign.
3. Press Enter. A warning message will appear stating that this will impact your programming.
4. Press Enter again to accept the warning message.
5. The zone is now no longer assigned, and that serial number has been returned to the list in the left column.
6. To unassign additional zones, repeat the same process. For example, to unassign zone 6, highlight Unassign, highlight Zone 6, and press Enter.
Reassigning Devices in the Correct Order
Once you've unassigned the incorrect zones, you can reassign them in the order you intended.
1. Select the correct serial number from the left column. For example, select va0001.
2. Assign it to the desired zone in the right column (e.g., Zone 5).
3. Repeat for additional zones. For example, find va0005 and assign it to Zone 6.
Using BaseManager for Remote Search and Assignment
If you're already connected to BaseManager, the search and assign process is even easier to do remotely. BaseManager also allows you to name zones and devices and carry those names over to the controller. Having names at the BaseStation 3200 controller is very helpful when you're manually running zones or programming at the controller. This process is shown in another video.
